Recognizing that recent graduates often prioritize career prospects, we assigned the greatest weight to the job market, accounting for 55% of the overall score. Moreover, considering the significance of exciting experiences and the desire to have friends visit, we allocated 30% of the score to desirability. Finally, we factored in affordability, which comprises 15% of the overall score, as young professionals often have entry-level salaries.

For young professionals aiming to thrive in the tech industry or join a startup, San Jose offers the most robust job market among the 150 most populous metro areas in the U.S. Despite the high housing prices, with the median home price in the San Jose area reaching nearly $1.5 million, the average annual salary of almost $100,000 helps offset this challenge. Additionally, San Jose secures the second position on the Sharecare Community Well-Being Index list, a testament to the happiness, security, and community pride of its residents.

2. Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta presents an excellent option for those seeking the hustle and bustle of a major city combined with Southern charm. As the capital of Georgia, Atlanta houses prominent companies like Delta Airlines, Home Depot, and The Coca-Cola Company. The area also boasts multiple universities and primary healthcare systems. With an average annual salary of $80,480, surpassing the national average by over $20,000, the District of Columbia boasts the third most robust job market among the 150 metro areas in the Best Places to Live ranking, following San Jose, California, and San Francisco.

Colorado Springs claims the ninth spot on the overall Best Places to Live list and ranks fourth for young professionals.
